DF Sugar Free Frosting
Visit my instagram page for a short video tutorial! This is a 4 ingredient recipe for a creamy frosting without dairy or sugar!! I used my favourite brand of dairy-free cream cheese and this recipe came together very easily. No soy, sugar, dairy or artificial sweeteners.
Make sure the cream cheese and dairy-free butter is at room temperature! Dairy-free brands vary in terms of consistency and ingredient quality. . I’m sure you can swap out different brands, but I don’t know for sure what the outcome will be. I do my best to avoid seed oils and soy when I purchase dairy-free products. I used vegan butter sticks and not the tub style butter replacement. I would try to stick to the same brands if possible.
INGREDIENTS
1 - 200g container of PLAIN Violife @violife_foods cream cheese
5 tbsp dairy-free vegan butter stick (I used Melt Organic @meltorganic)
1 cup powdered monkfruit, allulose, Swerve or erythritol (or use regular icing sugar if you don’t want sugar-free)
1 tsp vanilla extract
Optional: ½ tsp xanthan gum
Cream the room temperature cream cheese and dairy-free butter together with an electric mixer until it has a light smooth consistency. Start to add the powdered sugar substitute and continue to mix until it’s whipped and the icing texture you desire. Add the vanilla last and whip a little longer. Add more powdered sweetener for a thicker frosting.
The xanthan gum can sometimes make everything mix together better to avoid separation, but it is not necessary! If you notice that the frosting starts to break, you can add a small sprinkle to the bowl and see if that helps. Make sure the ingredients aren’t cold before beating together. If you think you want the xanthan, sprinkle it at the end of the mixing process. Some people will use cornstarch as an ingredient in vegan frosting recipes like this to help everything thicken and mix together nicely.
Store in the fridge until you need it. It’s lovely on cupcakes or a special celebration cake.
